Bau Biology (Building Biology)
Bau Biology' is a German word means 'Building Biology'.

In Bau Biology all the building are considered as living things. They eat, breath, excrete and do other major functions on behalf of the inmates of the house.

The usage of more energy in home and usage of numerous synthetic materials are against the interest of the nature and harms the inmates. A series of new diseases are coming up in living in those environments.

Bau Biology is a holistic branch of construction engineering to safeguard the occuppants of the home against these factors which will cause diseases.

Artificial Products - how they affect our life?

More over, now a days the presence of natural materials are comparatively very less in the construction industry. Artificial materials play a major role in the building materials industry. This is not supported by Bau-biologists (Building biologists). Apart from the construction of the structure, the interior decoration of the whole building should be done with natural materials only to the possible extend. The usage of petroleum by-products, synthetic products, acrylic products, PVC etc must be minimized. We mainly concentrate in the attractive color, texture, and appearance of the product we buy. But whether it is natural materials or not is a big question to be asked before selecting any product.  In the Middle East, 90% of the floor carpets sold and made of synthetic fibers.  If the demand from the buyers or users is towards the natural alternatives, the industry and related business circle will choose the right path, even though those products are costly.

In long run, the usage of artificial materials will ruin the health of the inhabitants. For the aged, patients and kids its bad effect is significant. Bau biologists warn against these products not only due to the use of these materials in home or office, but the production related processes are making a lot of environmental issues.

Fresh Air and Indoor Air quality

Fresh Air intake is not normal in most of the middle class accommodations. We are getting the cooled air from ACs in most of the seasons. In the ACs the fresh air intake should be more than 20%. Mostly the ACs are re-circulating and cooling the existing air in the room. Make sure the fresh air intake facility is there as well as the ducts healthy at all times. The molds, other vegetative growths, killed insects etc will destroy the air quality in the room.  Periodic cleaning of the ducts and the related accessories is a must at least once in two months.  But proper provisions for this facility is lacking in most buildings. The flow of 'Qi' (pronounced as 'Chee' as per Chinese Feng Shui) or 'Prana' in the flow of life energy from the cosmos. This must enter our interiors only through the openings such as doors and windows.  The glass partitions cannot pass this sort of energy from outside of our house or flat. Long and narrow corridors and passages will drive away this essential energy from getting into our interiors.

Fossil Fuels and Fission fuels  

Both the Fossil fuels (Petroleum, Coal - thermo power plants) and Fission fuels (nuclear power plants) are against the rule of the nature. So the use of the energy produced by these sources are to be reduced to the maximum possible extend.  The use of solar energy and other energies from nature is not harmful.

The human body is an amazing, self-rejuvenating entity that has the ability to repair itself while it sleeps. This is accomplished with its own, internal electrical system that functions with very weak electrical impulses. Electrical impulses are generated by the brain and are used for intercellular communication. This is possible because the body is composed mainly of water with a high mineral content making it highly electrically conductive.

Cells know when to divide by vibrating. Brain cells, nerve cells, bone cells, all vibrate at different rates in order to communicate with one another. Unfortunately, our bodies act like tuning forks. When you vibrate a tuning fork (external electrical influence), any turning fork (like our body) in its vicinity will start vibrating at the same frequency or rate, and therefore will be confused as to how fast to grow. 1

In the typical  sleeping area, electrical exposure from external sources (live electrical wiring in ceilings, walls and floors) is thousands of times stronger than the body's own electrical system. Long-term exposure to these high
level electric fields can impair the body's ability to communicate within itself and impact health. The average person spends approximately 1/3 of their life sleeping.

Doesn't it make sense to reduce exposure to electric fields in our sleeping areas?
Some people develop symptoms when they experience long-term exposure, especially at night, to elevated levels of electricity, such as: headaches, hyperactivity, nightmares, depression, fatigue, eyestrain and muscle cramps.
Biological problems associated with electromagnetic stressors fall into two major categories 2:
1. Brain (behavioral abnormalities, learning disabilities, altered bio-cycles and stress responses)
2. Growing tissue (embryos, genetics and cancer)

Use battery clocks near bed.
Research has shown exposure to high magnetic fields while sleeping can cause severe long-term illness. Many electric clocks produce high magnetic fields.

Turn off bedroom-affecting circuits
A restful sleep is necessary for health and a strong immune system. Electric fields affect you bio-communications, keeping you from sleeping soundly.

Eliminate or shield from RF
Radio frequency (RF) signals from portable phones, cell phones, and wireless devices have been shown to interfere with the body's immune system .

Use beds without metal.
Metal frames and metal box springs can amplify and distort the earth's natural magnetic field, which can lead to a non-restful sleep. Use natural materials.

Make sure there are no elevated magnetic fields.
Magnetic fields from appliances and building wiring can penetrate walls into a bedroom and disrupt the body's communication system.


Research has shown that for a body to properly detoxify during sleep it must be alkaline, and high electromagnetic fields lead to acidity. This is especially true for heavy metal detoxification. 3
